One of the best ways to see the areas aroundCannes, including the beautiful beaches and quaint villages is to hire a car, and you can either hire a car from the nearby airport, or pick one up in the town centre if you come in by boat.

Founded by the former Chancellor of the Exchequer fromEngland, Lord Brougham in 1834,Canneswas just a small village and a fisherman’s port. Brougham was actually on his way to nearby Nice, but decided to build a huge home, and his friends all followed suit, making it one of the wealthiest towns in the country. With world famous chefs setting up restaurants and some world class hotels following,Cannesquickly established itself as a holiday resort for the wealthy.

Festivals

Famous for its annualCannesfilm festival, the town actually hosts festivals all through the year, making it an interesting place to visit. Best to watch are the local fisherman who still go out fishing, despite the huge yachts coming into port throughout the events, and the fresh fish is served in restaurants all over the city.

Croisette

The stunning promenade, called the Croisette actually has over 130 gardeners, who work tirelessly to keep it in immaculate condition throughout the year, despite the millions of visitors who walk up and down it on an annual basis.

Public Beaches

There are several public beaches, as well as several private beaches aroundCannes. The busiest are the two inCannes, but the best beaches can be found when heading out along the coast towards La Napoule, with Plages du Midi being our favourite.

Rue d’Antibes

The Rue d’Antibes is a huge shopping road inCanneswith a selection of shops ranging from normal prices to the plain ridiculous. All shopping enthusiasts will want to visit this road however, at least for a spot of window shopping.

Le Suquet

Home to the fisherman of Cannes, the old town of Cannesis known as Le Suquet and is a wonderful place to visit. With an 11th century tower, surrounded by restaurants selling cheap fresh fish, you can’t go wrong sitting back with a meal and watching the fisherman go about their work.

Cannes Markets

Every week at the Allees de la Liberte, there is an antique market which is fantastic for visiting. Near the Felix Faure square, home to some of the best restaurants in the town, the market is a great place to walk up an appetite for a wonderful lunch.
