Car Hire in French Riviera

Also know asCote d’Azur, the French Riviera stretches across much of the south coast ofFrance, and looks out over theMediterranean Sea. TheRivierais famous for its place as one of the richest and most glamorous resorts in the world, and is truly the place where the rich come on holiday in the summer.

There is so much to see in the French Riviera, including the famousCannesfilm festival, the Monaco Grand Prix and of course St Tropez, but staying in the centre of any of these resorts is extremely expensive, and for many, they must stay elsewhere. One of the cheapest ways to visit is to stay just out of town and to hire a car, driving into the towns and resorts you choose to visit.

Things to do when hiring a car in the French Riviera

Antibes

A stunning small city on the coast,Antibesis set along the coast and encompasses a stunning fort, a port and some beautiful beaches. Inland, the town is famous for its restaurants, and is very popular with the French, who just love to eat in the outdoor restaurants in the evenings.

The beach is stunning, and looks out over the blue sea, although it can get busy in the hottest summer months. One of the most popular activities in the region is the hiring of bikes, and you can ride along the boulevard for miles, as it’s very flat.

Monaco

Technically not really a part ofFrance,Monacois the second smallest independent state, anywhere in the world, and is found in the French Riviera. Another hotspot for some of the richest people in the world, theMonacomarina features some of the most expensive yachts ever made. Remarkably, you can drive the vast majority of the Monaco Formula One circuit, which is raced on the roads, although the police will be on the lookout for those driving too fast.

St. Raphael

A slightly quieter, smaller and less expensive part of theRiviera, St. Raphael is famous for its golf, trekking and diving. For diving fans there is a wreck and a colourful red sea wall to dive just in front of the town, and fans of hiking and walking will enjoy the coastal walks to nearby Esterel.

Menton

An Italian like town on the coast, Menton is home to a beautiful old town which is full of boutiques and cafes. The casinos at theWestminsterand Ambassadeurs are worth a visit if you feel like having a flutter, while theJeanCocteauMuseumis home to a stunning range of tapestries, ceramics, drawings and a huge mosaic.

St Tropez

A town on the coast, this really is the home to the rich and the famous. Unless you have a really fat wallet you won’t be able to do much apart from walk around, and in some cafes a can of Coke can cost as much as 15 euros. Still worth a look if you want to see how the other half live and there are some stunning shops in the area.
