If you like beaches then you’ll love Majorca. They’re beautiful: soft white sand and calm clear water perfect for swimming, sunbathing and watersports.

Majorca Car HireIf you plan on trying some of the local cuisine, be sure to sample some of the fish dishes.

Otherwise you can find pretty much any cuisine you want on the island, there’s loads of choice.

Magaluf is great for nightlife; you’ll find more clubs and bars there that you can handle! But for a taste of more traditional Majorca, hire a car and head up north to Valldemossa and Soller.

Best places to visit when hiring a car in Majorca

If you plan to rent a car during your stay in Majorca, here’s a number of popular resorts and destinations that are well worth checking out during your stay on the island.

Magaluf

Vibrant Magaluf combines an upbeat atmosphere with an array of amenities to make it Majorca’s liveliest area. The sandy beached is lapped by shallow waters – perfect for lazing in the sun. Magaluf has family activities, shopping opportunities and a great choice of restaurants. At night all eyes are focused on the many vibrant bars and nightclubs that teem with young holidaymakers.

Palma Nova

Palma Nova and Magaluf should probably be said in the same breath, since the two resorts have expanded and merged. However, out of the two, Palma Nova remains a better choice for families. There are two sandy beaches, a good selection of restaurants, shops, bars, cafes and entertainment, together with family attractions such as Marineland.

Santa Ponsa

Popular Santa Ponsa sits on a beautiful bay, with fine white sands that stretch the width of the bay. Away from the beach, visitors can enjoy the resort’s sports facilities, go shopping or enjoy the attractions in nearby Palma, Portals Nous and Magaluf. There’s a great choice of restaurants, and a selection of bars and discos too.

Cala Barca

Situated 8km from Cala d’Or, Cala Barca is a remote resort ideal for a relaxing holiday. The resort boats the beautiful nature spot of the Bay of Mondrago as well as a range of bars, shops and restaurants.

Puerto Pollensa

This pretty and traditional resort offers an attractive beach holiday choice for families and couples. Fine sands, shallow waters and watersports make for fun days at the beach. Choose from four small, popular coves and the un-crowded main beach. The stylish marina and the streets behind house boutiques and bustling cafes. There are also bars and restaurants perfect for relaxing evenings.

Alcudia

Popular Alcudia is geared to cater for all ages and tastes. For action-packed days head to the nearby waterpark, the local wetland nature reserve or the white-sand beach. Less energetic pastimes include soaking up the Old Town’s historic charm and exploring the coastline by boat. Boutiques and shops are dotted across the resort; bars, restaurants and cafes sit peacefully along the bay.

Cala d’Or

With pine-fringed headlands and pretty bays, this is one of the east coast’s most beautiful areas. You’ll find a string of coves or ‘calas’ like mini resorts, each with their own beach, traditional buildings, shops, bars and restaurants. Nearby Cala Millor’s large, upmarket marina is host to sophisticated restaurants and cafes.

C’an Picafort

This appealing resort set on the north-east coast and at the heart of the Alcudia Bay has a lively and friendly atmosphere. The beach consists of gently shelving sands with a number of watersport activities on offer. In the evening visit the promenade, where a selection of restaurants and bars, as well as a sprinkling of discos, serve up colourful evening entertainment.

Cala Millor

Modern, purpose built Cala Millor buzzes with energy all summer and attracts families, couples and singles alike. It offers a choice of restaurants, boutiques, shops and bus services to nearby attractions. The beach has a sheltered bay with sloping sands and great watersports. Families will find plenty to do in the resort, while party animals will not be disappointed by the scores of bars and nightclubs.

Illetas

Situated on the south coast, to the west of Palma, Illetas is a picturesque resort that has a reputation for attracting more affluent visitors. For daytime relaxation there is a small sandy beach and a few tiny coves. This high-class resort offers sophisticated night-life with more lively options available only 1km away in Palma.

Cala Vinas

On the south-west of the island, offering a restful atmosphere. The small cove with its fine white sand is a good place to soak up the sun. A delightful resort, set in a pretty cove with a sheltered, white sandy beach, Cala Vinas is located just a short walk from the legendary nightlife of Magaluf and offers a selection of shops, cafes and bars.
