Car Hire in Menorca

The two-mile stretch of golden sand at Son Bou is the longest beach on Menorca. There are some other great beaches around Cala’n Forcat, with the brilliant clear water at Sa Caleta a perfect location for snorkelling.

Menorcan cuisine has a lot of French and English influences, although ofcourse you can order all your favourite traditional Spanish dishes there too.

The one to try is the local lobster casserole (caldereta de langosta) – it’s favourite!

Many visitors to Menorca take home hand crafted ceramics, palm leaf basketry and leather goods (particularly shoes) as souvenirs. You can buy them at the weekly markets, or shop ’til you drop in Mahon’s modern stores.

For evening entertainment, most resorts have a few bars but Mahon has the liveliest night-life on Menorca. If you’re staying in a big hotel, it may well offer its own entertainment.

Best places to visit when hiring a car in Menorca

If you plan to rent a car during your stay in Menorca, here’s a number of popular resorts and destinations that are well worth checking out during your stay on the island.

Son Bou

Backed by low-lying hills and boasting the longest beach on the island, with a range of water sports, Son Bou is an ideal destination for beach lovers. Away from the sand you will also find plenty of shops, bars and restaurants lining the seafront. Evening entertainment can be found in the bars and there is a disco for those looking to dance the night away.

Cala’n Bosch

With two sandy beaches plus a number of secluded coves along the coastline, this modern resort appeals to families that want to relax together. There’s a good section of shops and an attractive marina development with offers a mixture of bustling bars, cafes and restaurants for couples to also enjoy.

Cala Galdana

Relax in one of Menorca’s most picturesque resorts, where you will find clear waters and gently shelving sands. The pine-clad hills and steep valleys are not only beautiful but also ideal for walkers. The streets behind the beach boast restaurants, bars and shops where you can unwind and appreciate the resort’s low-key night-life.

Santo Tomas

This small and relaxing resort attracts families and couples seeking a peaceful beach holiday. The main focus is a white-sand beach. Stroll along a promenade, relax in a couple of bars and visit a selection of souvenir shops. As entertainment tends to be hotel-based, evenings are a laid-back affair.

S’Algar

S’Algar has good sports facilities and a water sports club which caters for a wide range of activities including a Scuba Dive Centre. Although there is no beach to speak of, a lido has been built along the rocky coastline. Visitors will find mini markets and souvenir shops to satisfy their retail needs. Night-life is limited to the hotels, a few bars and a disco.

Punta Prima

Peaceful and scenic Punta Prima is a well-presented resort on the island’s south-eastern corner, overlooking a splendid beach. The beach is the focal point of the resort and has a string of attractive beach front bars – with some offering evening entertainment provided by a local musician or dance school. There is a selection of shops and enough restaurants to ensure plenty of choice.
